- What counts as a real HEPA air purifier?
- On our list, a real HEPA purifier uses a genuine True HEPA, H13, or H14 filter. Labels like "HEPA-type," "HEPA-like," or "99 percent HEPA" don't qualify - they signal a filter that falls short of the HEPA grade, so don't read them as the same thing. We exclude ozone generators entirely; in our view they are not air purifiers.
- Why does a sealed filter path matter?
- A sealed path forces all the air the fan moves through the HEPA filter instead of around it. We reward sealed construction because an unsealed housing lets unfiltered air slip past, which drops the real-world particle capture even when the filter media itself is genuine HEPA - so the seal is doing as much work as the filter.
