Editorial standards
These rules govern every scorecard and article on FilterScored.
Independence
Affiliate relationships never influence a score, a ranking, or a verdict. Scoring is deterministic (see the methodology): the engine computes the score from the data, so a commission cannot move it. We disclose affiliate links on every page that carries them.
Sourcing and verification
- Performance and certification claims are verified against primary sources: the AHAM Verifide directory, the NSF, WQA, and IAPMO certified-product databases, CARB lists, and manufacturer spec sheets.
- A marketing claim is never treated as a certification. "Tested to" or "designed to meet" language earns no certification credit.
- Total cost of ownership is computed from real, dated replacement-filter prices. Where a price is not publicly available, we cap the dimension and label the gap rather than estimate.
- Prices and certifications are re-checked on a cadence; each scorecard shows a last-reviewed date and a confidence label.
Confidence labels
Verified means every scoring input is sourced and confirmed on an official database. Partial means some inputs are sourced from manufacturer or retailer pages pending database confirmation. Prototype seed means pre-verification data shown during build.
Health claims
We do not claim any product treats, cures, or prevents disease. We score contaminant reduction against held certifications and cite the EPA or CDC, in measured language, for why a contaminant matters.
