Cheapest Water Filter Per Gallon

The cheapest water filter to run is the one with the lowest computed cost per gallon - high-capacity under-sink and whole-house filters usually win, not pitchers.

Sticker price hides the real cost: cartridge price divided by rated gallons. A cheap pitcher with tiny cartridges can cost more per gallon than an under-sink system. We compute cost per gallon for every unit and rank by it here.

How we score: We exclude units with no public filter price, then rank by computed cost per gallon, lowest first.

FAQ

Is a cheap pitcher actually cheap?
Often not. A pitcher cartridge rated for 40 gallons can cost more per gallon than a 500-gallon under-sink cartridge. We compute cost per gallon so you can see the real running cost.
