• Best Water Filter for Lead

  Lead removal is the one claim you should never take on marketing alone. We only rank filters NSF/ANSI 53 certified specifically for lead and listed on an official database. A filter 'tested to NSF standards' but not certified does not appear here.

• Best Water Filter for PFAS

  PFAS ('forever chemicals') need a filter certified to NSF/ANSI P473, or 53 + 401 covering PFOA and PFOS, or NSF/ANSI 58 for reverse osmosis. We rank only units with that certification on an official database.

• Best Air Purifier for Wildfire Smoke

  Wildfire smoke is mostly fine PM2.5. You want a high AHAM-verified smoke CADR for your room, real HEPA plus carbon, and absolutely no ozone. We rank ozone-free HEPA units by composite score; aim for extra CADR during smoke events.

  A bedroom purifier has to be quiet enough to sleep through. We surface real-HEPA, ozone-free units that run at or below roughly 30 dBA on their lowest useful speed, then rank by composite score.
